JOSHUA STERN

WORKS |  BIOGRAPHY

Born 1957, New York, USA, lives and works in New York

Despite his technical mastery, Joshua Stern is not a photographer as such. His use of the medium is above all a means to an end, allowing the ambiguous representation of unseen models, made of hard to identify materials, transformed from an unknown scale. By using unassuming imagery and discreet narrative, Stern is able to invite contemplation of deeper issues, as cerebral as the human condition itself.

Indeed, the unpretentiousness of these works is one of their attributes, itself maximizing the potential of other qualities to operate, balancing humor with philosophy, art history with innovation, and craftsmanship with concept.
