GOB (catarrh among the living)

January 27 - March 4, 2001

Joshua Stern

In the first one person exhibition to be organized at Parker's Box, the gallery presented new work by Joshua Stern, who had also featured in the inaugural group show in June, 2000. On first inspection, the representation of human heads, which are the subject of Stern's latest photographic works, seems to constitute some kind of interpretable set of Everyman caricatures. However, the dialogue which his work engages with the spectator, raises as many questions about the objective reality of what we're actually looking at, (photographs of tiny spitball sculptures) as it does about the subjective impressions each of us may have of one or other of his huge cast of characters.
