CAROLINE MCCARTHY February 16 - March 18, 2002 Caroline McCarthy focuses on our perception of familiar objects and what happens when their external aspect is subtly changed. Her new work From the Testors Military Range, uses banal plastic or cardboard containers painted black, silver and gray so that they begin resembling cameras or electronic equipment. By carefully transforming them, McCarthy increases their visibility, but her statement that it is "too easy to make something look like something else", is significant here. The artist's real interest lies much more in "making something hover between what it was and what it is alluding to being..." |
